~Getting to Know Me~

I came across this fun little "Getting to know you" party over at The Idea Room and thought I would join in!

<

~I was born into a family of 5 girls but was put into the foster care system and was adopted by the time I was two years old by two wonderful people! Luckily, I was adopted together with two of my sisters (the other two were adopted by other families). I also have a brother that my parents had a couple years after we were adopted! :)~

~I am deathly afraid of sharks! I don't know why but I am! I can't go into aquariums, or watch them on tv, or look at them in books, etc! They scare me to death even though I know I will probably never be around them to hurt me or anything but just the sight of them scares me! LOL~

~I have been happily married to my wonderful hubby for 6 yrs!~

~I have a love affair with shoes! I absolutely can't pass up a good deal on shoes! I have a ton of them! To me they are the most important part of an outfit!~

~This is kind of a weird one but I LOVE Monster trucks! I think it all stems from an ex-boyfriend that I had. If I could drive one to work I totally would! I would probably need a ladder to get in it because I am only 4'11!~

~I make custom made cakes for my family and friends~

~I {secretly} want to be a singer! I love singing on Rockband and Karaoke Revolution! I probably sound really bad but it is good times! LOL~

~I am a Twilight nut! I LOVE the Twilight Saga!~

~ I hate wearing wet clothes...like when you go to a water park and ride the "Roaring Rapids" rides where your clothes get drenched and then you have to walk around in wet clothes! LOL~

~I love to scrapbook, read, travel, and go to concerts! I've been to 5 Rascal Flatts concerts! ~

Some of my favorite tv shows are GLEE, Life Unexpected, Hellcats, and Gossip Girl~

These are just a few random tidbits about myself! Have a great weekend!

Definitely spending time with the family! I always get so excited for my family to come into town!

I am totally ready for Christmas! I FINALLY got my house all decorated and I did my last bit of shopping today! Let the festivities begin!

~Frosty the Sock Snowman~

Last year at Christmas my sister wanted to do a craft with my niece and nephews so she brought stuff to make sock snowmen! Of course, I had to make one too! LOL I wasn't sure how to make them but they are really easy to make so I wanted to share it with you!

Items you need: A tube sock, a small round Glad Ware lid, some red fleece or material, some buttons, a cotton ball, and cotton batting

How to make it:

First you put the Glad Ware lid into the bottom of the sock, then you fill the sock with cotton batting. Fold the elastic part of the sock over to make the hat. Then cut your red fleece/material into two strips and cut the ends to make fringe to look like a scarf. Glue one piece around the hat of your snowman and one around the neck of your snowman. Next glue the buttons on your snowman and add one on the hat (if you want to!) then lastly glue a cotton ball on the very top of the snowman's hat!

This is a craft that my niece and nephews had fun making! It was fun seeing how each one of them turned out! They of course had to give their snowmen a name too!

This is a fun craft to definitely with your kids! Have a good day!

~Our Fireplace Mantel~

For the last 2 years I have decorated our fireplace mantel the same because I love it so much! I went with a snowflake and ice skating theme! I have to show it off because I think it is so fun! I think it goes perfectly with our beautiful silver, turquoise, purple, and white Christmas tree! In this pic I didn't have our stockings hanging up because they really don't go with the theme (mine is a reindeer stocking that my parents got me when I was younger and the hubby's stocking is an OSU (Oklahoma State University) stocking that he purchased himself this year! LOL) Sorry the picture is kind of dark! I might need to add some lights to give some sparkle! Oh, I also made the ice skates out of cardstock and scrapbook paper! I used buttons for the shoelace holes on the skates! How cute are they?!

Thanks for looking! Enjoy your weekend!

It's beginning to look alot like Christmas!

Well, around my house it is! I finally finally finally got my Christmas tree put up last night! I thought I would post a pic for everyone to see! Isn't she a beauty? She has silver, turquoise, purple, and white ornaments on her! A lot of the ornaments I got from Walmart or Dollar Tree all for a $1! There is nothing better than a lit up Christmas tree at night! I like turning the lights off, turning the Christmas tree on, and watching tv or a movie!

Thanks for looking! Have a great day! Keep warm!

Friday Fives...My Answers!!

Hello lovely ladies! This is my first time doing Friday Fives and I am sure I am going to LOVE it!

1. The most exciting thing I could unwrap on Christmas morning would be: GLEE Karaoke Revolution! I really want this! I am a total GLEEK and I love karaoke, so this would be the perfect gift for me! I am hinting around to my hubby that I want it, so I hope I get it! :)

2. Name a fun family tradition that you and your family do or would like to start: One tradition that my family does every year is we do "Find the Pickle"...we started this several years ago and my niece and nephews love it! It is a hoot watching them hunt for it and seeing their reaction when someone finds it!

3. Name a favorite Christmas song or hymn: My favorite Christmas song right now is "Christmas Canon" from Trans-Siberian Orchestra! It is soo beautiful! It also has "Canon D" in it, which is the song I had playing when I walked down the aisle at my wedding!

4. How do you celebrate Christmas? Is it a formal holiday for your family or a very informal one as far as the meal goes? My family's Christmas is usually informal especially on Christmas Eve...we usually have snack foods before or after we attend the Christmas service at church and then Christmas Day is usually informal as well! We like to keep everything causal and comfortable!

5. What sounds do you hear when you read this blog and type your answers? Right now as I am typing my answers the only sounds I hear is the keys being typed and Christmas music on the radio! "Up on the housetop" is playing right now! LOL

This was fun! I can't wait to read everyone's answers! Have a GREAT weekend! Stay warm!

Love,

Ruthie

What's Your Favorite Christmas Song?

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Christmas music! I always look forward to Thanksgiving because I know the Christmas music is right around the corner! So, I just have to ask...What is your favorite Christmas song? I have a couple favorites right now and one of them is Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Christmas Canon"!! I LOOOVE this song probably because I had "Canon D" playing as I walked down the aisle on my wedding day! It is such a beautiful song!

My 2nd favorite Christmas song is "Where Are You Christmas" by Faith Hill...it is such a beautiful song as well! I really like it alot!

So I am asking you....what is your favorite Christmas song? One that you like to listen to every year?

Have a great week!

Sweet Christmas Decor!

I am probably THE ONLY ONE who hasn't got their Christmas decor out! LOL I am SLOWLY starting to put stuff out so here is a sneak peek of what I have so far...Here is my cute Cafe sign with some adorable decorations that I have found recently! The cute little cookie cutter cookies, the cute candy cane picks that are in the white pitchers, and the cute little gingerbread sign that is sitting on the cafe sign were all 1/2 off at Hobby Lobby!

I found these cuties at a local boutique store and just HAD to have these! I found the cute white cake plate and the cute little petit fours there and I just weaved a little plaid ribbon throughout the cake plate! I thought it gave a nice festive flair to it!

How adorable are these?! They look so real!

Well, this is just a start of my decor...I will post more things as I go along! Maybe one of these days I will actually get my tree up! LOL

Have a great weekend! Stay warm!

~A Thankful Weekend~

Hello ladies! I hope everyone had a GREAT Thanksgiving weekend! I sure did! It all started with a Girl's Night Out with some of my girlfriends to see Wicked on Tuesday night! This was my 2nd time seeing it and I just ABSOLUTELY LOVE it! If anyone gets a chance to see it you should! It is wonderful!

Then Wednesday night some of my family members came into town! Thursday morning was a treat...My brother, neice, brother-in-law and I went Thanksgiving morning to the church to help deliver Thanksgiving meals to families around in the area. The church does this every year and it is such a eye opener to see all the families who don't have money for Thanksgiving dinner. Everyone of them seems so appreciative of it! Even though they don't have huge houses, and they live in tiny apartments, it was so neat to see all their family members coming together and spending the day with each other! The first apt that we delivered to made me tear up because it makes me feel thankful for everything that I have...growing up I never had to go without and it is hard for me to see people who have to struggle to make ends meet. It brought tears to my eyes. I just feel soo blessed to have the family that I do, that I am able to have a nice warm house to live in, food to eat each and everyday. I am adopted and I am so thankful to be adopted by such loving and caring parents...they have done so much for me and my siblings! I don't know where I would be now if I wasn't adopted by such great people. I truly feel blessed!

I hope each one of you have a Blessed week!

"Visions of Sugar Plums" (Part II)

I recently went to our local Hobby Lobby with my BFF and her daughter to get some small Christmas trees and ornaments! They were having such a great sale on Christmas items! Everything was 1/2 off so I definitely HAD to take advantage of that GREAT deal! I wanted a small tree to put in my kitchen to go with my Gingerbread/candy theme that I usually decorate with...I couldn't decide which way looks best so I will post a pic of both!

Here it is in front of the windows....

On my side table with a Gingerbread tree skirt...

I kind of like it in the chair in front of the windows...it gives a rustic feel to it! I'm sure I'll change my mind several times before Christmas! LOL

Hope you have a great week! Stay Warm!

"Visions of Sugar Plums"

While visiting a local Hobby Lobby, I found the cutest faux Gingerbread men and candy picks! I HAD to get them because I knew I could make a cute wreath to match all my other Gingerbread men decor! I threw it all together along with some really cute red and white plaid ribbon and "Voila!" here it is:

It is going to go perfect with all my other decor! I can't wait to get everything out and start decorating! I will, however, probably wait until after Thanksgiving to start decorating! As much as I LOVE Christmas...I don't want to rush it!

Thanks for looking! Have a great rest of the week!

HOOO Are You? My Answers!

NightOwlCrafting

1. Name two things you consider yourself to be very good at.
I make a pretty mean cake (decorated of course!) and I am a very good listener...whenever anyone has a problem and needs someone to talk to they usually come to me because they know I will listen to what they have to say.

2. Name two things you consider yourself to be very bad at.
Saying No...it is very hard for me to say No to people and the other would have to be trying to small talk with people...some people might think I am rude or non-social but if I really don't have anything to say to someone I usually don't say anything.

3. Do you believe everything happens for a reason?
I believe everything happens for a reason even though I might not like what happens I know there is a reason behind it!

4. What is something you have eaten lately that you shouldn't have?
Probably all the pasta I had for dinner! LOL I think I ate too much of it and probably shouldn't have :)

5. Do you think the time should change or leave it alone?
I think the time should be left alone...it really messes everyone up and makes it hard to get use to! It usually takes me a week to get used to it!

November-National Adoption Awareness Month!

Hello fellow bloggers! I just read that November is National Adoption Awareness Month!

"Each year, November is recognized as National Adoption Awareness Month. While all adoption-related issues are important, the particular focus of this month is the adoption of children currently in foster care."

"Not flesh of my flesh, Nor bone of my bone, But still miraculously my own. Never forget for a single minute, You didn't grow under my heart - but in it"

On a personal note, I can say that I was adopted by my parents at a young age of 2yrs old. I was adopted along with 2 of my 4 sisters and have been blessed with wonderful parents who have given me and my sisters a great life! We were put in the foster care system and stayed there for several years until my parents adopted us. (My other 2 sisters were adopted by other families) I can honestly say I don't know where I would be if we weren't adopted by such wonderful people! They gave us a life that I could never imagine and I wish that every child in the foster care system could have a chance at a wonderful life like my sisters and I have had! I have a lot of respect for adoptive parents because a lot of children come from such difficult backgrounds and yet they look past that and love these children as their own! My BFF since childhood has a beautiful little girl that she adopted 5 yrs ago from India...it was a long process but she eventually was able to hold her beautiful daughter in her arms! Her little girl has grown into a wonderful little person and is full of life! Adoption is such a wonderful thing and I hope that many children are able to have GREAT lives because of it! I am soo thankful for the opportunities that I have had and the life I have because of it! I couldn't be more blessed!

I hope everyone has a GREAT week!

Halloween, Hotdogs, and a Harley!

Hello blog friends! I had a fun filled Halloween weekend this year! How was yours? Mine started out with a fun Halloween party that I hosted at my house with several of my friends and their kiddos...I think there was a total of 6 adults and 9 kiddos! Then Saturday night I went with another friend and her daughter to a local ranch where they had all kinds of stuff to do like pony rides, a hayride, petting zoo, trick or treating, and more! Sunday (Halloween) I got to spend it with my BFF Terrell and her family! We had a cookout with hamburgers and hotdogs and then her brother took me on my first ride on a Harley! It was such a nice day for a ride and it felt soo good having the wind in my hair! (of course it was a short ride just down the street! LOL) Then after it started getting dark a few of us jumped in the back of her dad's truck and we went trick or treating with her daughter Mirrah and her friend Danielle! They got soo much candy!

{Here is a pic of me and Jon T on his Harley! It was good times!}

I hope everyone had a good weekend and have a good rest of the week!

What's Your Favorite Halloween Candy?

My all time favorite Halloween candy is Candy Corn! I usually like to eat it plain but some people say that adding peanuts to it makes it EXTRA delish! It gives it a sweet and savory flavor!

But my ABSOLUTE favorite kind is the Candy corn pumpkins! I love how they are shaped like little pumpkins! Aren't they adorable?

I would love to hear what everyone's favorite Halloween treat is and what you like to pass out to Trick or Treaters!

~Taco Soup~

Happy Fall everyone! A couple ladies on here asked me if I would share my Mom's Taco Soup recipe so here it is! It is a warm and hearty meal to eat during the Fall and those cold winter months!

~Taco Soup~

1-1/2 lb Ground Beef
1/2 cup onion, chopped
28 oz. can tomatoes with juice
14 oz. can kidney beans
8 oz. can tomato sauce
7 oz. can corn, undrained
1 pkg. taco seasoning
1 to 2 cups water
Salt & pepper to taste
1 cup cheddar cheese
Fritos

Brown beef, drain, add onions & taco seasoning. Cook until onions are tender.
Add all ingredients except cheese and Fritos. Simmer 15 minutes. Enjoy!

{I usually don't add the onions because the hubby and I don't really like them so I leave those out. We really don't miss them in the soup! We also love to add some sour cream as well!}

We love to make this on Halloween and eat this while handing out candy or during Football season the hubby likes to watch his football games and eat a big bowl of this warm and tasty soup! I hope everyone gives it a try! It has the consistency of chili...it is soo good!

Have a GREAT weekend!
